Good morning.

It is my sad duty to report to you that Bob Richardson passed away Friday night.

He had been recently hospitalized with pneumonia, kidney failure, and heart palpitations.

I'm sure there will be a memorial in his honor at the Colorado RR Museum. I'm sure there will be much more to follow in the next few hours.

Our prayers are with Bob and his immediate family, and also his beloved extended family, which includes all of us.

Bob has done in his lifetime for the railway preservation movement, more than most of us could have ever hoped to do in several lifetimes. It is sad to note the passing of someone who dedicated his life to the preservation of railroad history. He will truly be missed by all of us.

I only recall meeting Bob Richardson once, when he put on an excellent program for our NRHS Chapter many years ago. He chronicled his remarkable life through words and pictures in the book "Chasing Trains", which I highly recommend. Bob Richardson earned a place of honor in the world of railroad history and preservation.

The Colorado Railroad Museum wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for Bob Richardson --- I met him at the 1982 NRHS convention and it's an understatement to say he will be missed.

It is likely that without the interest in the narrow gauge that he created, there might not be a Silverton train or the C&TS, nor the Georgetown Loop. He lived life to the end, paying an extensive visit to narrow gauge country in the summer of 2006, at age 96. We should all be so lucky..
