Hi, I want to make a wood silhouette of a A-unit E or F for my mailbox. Does anyone know where plans might be for an E or F unit? I know There was one in Model Railroader in the 1960s (I redrew is to scale for a mechanical drawing class in high school and it made it to the shop fair but it got lost in moving). I might be interested in a profile or silhouette of a Southern Ps4 also. Thanks for all help. Doug |

Given the risks from both snowplows and idiots with baseball bats and pickup trucks, I would at the minimum recommend ordering an authentic frame from General Steel Castings......... |

Given technology today, you might be able to get a piece of steel flame cut on one of those machines that can take a drawing and cut its outline. Aluminum or stainless would be better, but can't be flame cut. |

You are correct about those sorts of problems. However in 38 years living in the turn-around of a cul-de-sac, non of the five houses on it have had any problems. Sort of hard to drive fast by mail boxes while trying to turn a +30 foot radius (40 foot edge to edge pavement diameter). However, maybe a piece of steel or aluminum would be better. Thanks. Doug |

You could also cut the basic shape out of plexiglass, with copies of the drawings adhered to it on both sides. I imagine today's hi-tech print shops could make some kind of adhesive "stickers" from those drawings. to apply to the plexiglass. The clear plexiglass could allow windows and portholes to be clear also. |

Wow, some really neat stuff here. I even found a EMC Model 40. Unfortunately it is the phase one, which is a little different that the one we operate at Travel Town. But hey, its good enough to experiment with new paint schemes. Now if there was only a Baldwin RS-12 (with dynamic brakes) and an American 40 ton locomotive crane. :-) Wish I had the talent to draw something like those. Greg |
