I ran across a list somewhere of the following Milwaukee Road EMD F-units in existance:

F7 A's - 81A, 81C, 110C and 118C

F7 B's - 71B and 96B

FP7 A's - 96C, 97C, 101A, 103C, 104C and 109A

Many of these are not currently lettered for the Milwaukee Road and I am not even sure if they all still exist, or if there may possibly be some still around that are not on the list. But I thought the total number (12) was rather impressive, especially for a railroad that disappeared so many years ago. Just wondered if this is the most F units still in existance from a single rail line. Anyone know for sure?

This execellent list is a good place to answer such questions:

http://membrane.com/~elmer/rail/units/f_units.html

Such a list is incomplete without a survey of the current condition of these units. Some are in very good condition - with some having remained in operational condition since entering preservation and one being rumored to have been shopped shortly before retirement. Others have bodies that are in very poor condition and at best questionable mechanicals.

The largest group of extant F-units from one railroad are former New Haven FL9s. There are close to a dozen in the hands of preservation groups/tourist lines, and at least 8-10 still in limited service for Metro-North and Conn. DOT.

From the F units list, here are some photos of ex-MILW Fs and two B units, one thought to be ex-BN 817, nee' NP, apparently headed to the Aberdeen Carolina & Western quite recently:
