Post subject: | Alder Gulch Loco Correction |
The Mexican 2-8-0 now in use one the Alder Gulch is fitted with an aftermarket, early form of Baker Valve Gear, not Walschearts, as reported. The engine originally had Stephenson Link Motion. The Pilliod Company sold these "kits" to place a more convenient, outside the frame system on older engines. They also marketed Southern Valve gear as well. One of the Argent Lumber engines at Mt Pleasant is so fitted. Many an old yet useful old hog recieved such treatment when they slung an eccentric strap, which had a tendancy to tear everything else under there up as well, or when the shop guys got tired of crawling around in the pit to work on the valve motion. lorija799@aol.com |
