Photo tour of this historic shop complex in 2004. Includes photos of the little saddletanker operating. Worth a look, just 20 photos.

Maybe I'm nuts, but could it be some of the scenes of Glory were shot here? The smokestack and privies looks real familiar.

I'm not speaking on behalf of the Roundhouse Museum but yes, many scenes of the film "Glory" were filmed there.

Dave -

Two questions; is that GOAT'S original headlight and did she have a number wherever she was in service?

Makes me wonder where else I am out there online...I am the "lucky one" that is photoed running the tea kettle and was the then CMO. We had gotten a crazy good deal on crank case oil in 5 gallon pails...$2 a pail if memory serves me, and yes it did take almost 2 hours to fuel.
And Dave, I am quite glad that I am not the only one who has noticed that with the recent rebuild ALL of her Georgia history has been removed. For those who don't know the loco as Dave and I, that locomotive had operated for Georgia Power as a switcher during the construction of plant Arkwright ad was at that time stenciled with some very historic company logos. Later, she servered into the 60's as a switcher for the same plant.
She has now been back dated to an as built appearence removing all of the mods made by georgia power and relettered for her original purchaser which was not located in Georgia.. This is, in my opinion, a shame as they are the Georgia State Railroad Museum (Thanks to Rudd Long) and they now have one less piece of georgia history.
Just to clarify, Scott Lindsay rebuilt the engine but DID NOT make any of the decisions regarding cosmetics...those were dictated.

Rudd, did you ever get any pics of GOAT after I got the lettering and logos on her?

I'm pretty sure I have some pre- and post- restoration photos, not all digital, but some somewhere. Ya need 'em?

The appearance reflects GOAT when retired from Georgia Power (less some lettering) which resulted from in-house alterations by the power plant crew, and an Eisenhower era rebuilding by an engineering firm in Atlanta done for Georgia Power. The head and backup lights were indeed 1950s style torpedos. The headlight was gone when we got her, but the mounting was still there, and the rear light was intact so we knew what was appropriate. GP number was 30. New lights almost identical to the remains of the old were available off the shelf from NAPA - I got them with 24 VDC lamps, and choked down the dynamo for 24 volt output, used 24 volt off-shelf cab lights as well.
