I seem to recall there was an attempt to save this engine, shown here at St. Cloud, Minnesota in July 1957. Anyone know the details? http://abpr.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi?a ... gn2580.jpg |

Anyone know the details? http://abpr.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi?a ... gn2580.jpg I remember seeing an advertisement in TRAINS Magazine about that time, soliciting funds for just such an effort. I too, often wondered what happened. Maybe its still around hiding in a roundhouse stall somewhere (I know, dream on!) The 2580 is a sister S2 class Northern to the 2584 that is now on display in Havre, Montana. Les |

Bob - I am not quite sure what the photo of IC 2-8-0 #790 has to do with the original post about the attempt to save GN 4-8-4 #2580. BUT, let me go on record as saying that the 790 is one of my favorite preserved steam locomotives. Sure wish we had her at our museum to try to restore her to service! Les |
