As a follow up to the discussion earlier this month regarding Georgia Northern 107 which of the Georgia Northern /GAS&C / Albany & Northern 2-8-2's might be a better option for a rebuild and possible use on the SAM Shortline, I was advised this weekend during the local model train show that GN Ry 105 was recently repainted by the city...unfortunately, only after sandblasting the old paint off. I hope they protected the chrome plated numbers and any brass on the engine, but I'm afraid what I may find when I get inside the fence. |

It is still under that roof and behind that stone and barbed wire wall, right? I hadn't seen 105 since I left Florida in 98, but I remember what a railfan from New Jersey said when he was trying to get pictures the last time I saw her: Quote: Yeah, it's tough to get a photo, but at least there won't be so much rust in 50 years!

Yes, its still under roof and behind the barbed wire fence. No stone, though. I think that is GAS&C in Sylvester that has some stoone wall component to the fencing, but I don't have photos handy. There has almost always been a fence around 105, but the shelter is relatively new, having been built in the early 1990's. It is constructed on massive timbers and certainly is difficult to photograph around. It was this shed and the sheds in Sylvester and in Camilla (over Albany & Northern 9) that I used as examples of what we DIDN'T want to do at Thronateeska with 107. I suppose I was partially successful. I'll report back with more info and maybe some current photos (if someone can host them for posting purposes) after I look her over. |
