Just a sad look at this abandoned Rhode Island rail station, which has the fast trains of the Northeast Corridor passing underneath:

What is the non-electrified track in this picture?

Part of this building has apparently been demolished recently, with the possibility of more to follow:

That non-electrified track on the left is the Providence 3rd rail project, which will allow Providence & Worcester RR to bring oversize loads (according to Amtrak NEC) from Seaview Railroad in Davisville, RI (former Quonset Point Naval Base) to Worcester Ma for distribution to other railroads.

The height of Car Carriers and Double Stack containers were too tall for that section of the North East Corridor, due to the height of the Catenary wire on the NEC. This is why the track is deeper then the other 2 lines. The line was recently opened and dedicated by RI Politicos. The Carriers and Containers will be brought up to Worcester Ma, then down to Plainfield, Ct, and over to Willimantic, Ct to be interchanged with New England Central which will then bring them north to Canada, after the lowering of the tunnel in Bellows Falls is completed. The P&W RR recently re-opened the western half of the line from Plainfield to Willimantic for these moves, and to get the majority of the NECR/PWRR interchange traffic off the NEC. Previously they interchanged in New London, Ct, which is the southern terminus of the NECR.

Post subject:  CVS Pharmacy again? Remember NYC #16?

CVS wants this site? The same people who announced that New York Central tugboat #16 formerly at Buzzards Bay Mass. was being "moved" to New York State, allowed the stack and the top of the pilothouse to be cut off, and then had the rest of the boat demolished and scrapped?

Good luck on saving any part of that station!
