I have some good news concerning the progress with our locomotive. Scott and I worked Monday and Tuesday with Mike and the crew fitting the cistern back onto its frame for probably the first time in twenty years. We had to remove it to place the wood sleepers onto the frame and to install a pair of braces on the cistern itself. Hopefully the cistern will be finished and installed to the frame sometime in the next week. We also would like to welcome Bob Yuill from Yuill’s Historic Machinery and his helper to the project. Norm, Bob’s helper, has been with us for about two weeks now and has made great progress in the firebox. About two thirds of the flexible stay bolts in the throat sheet have been installed and hammered over. The outer firebox is now complete, welded, stress relieved, x-rayed, done. Work on the inner sheets has started along with fitting the door sheet. We have had move some machines in since Bill is no longer on the project but I don’t believe that this has slowed us down. I believe that the project is now actually gaining momentum. We hope to start machining the shoes and wedges and are able to install the wheels in the next month to month and a half. We hope to have some new pictures on our web site soon. I hope to be back up next week and I’ll try to post any new news. Thanks to all of you who have stood behind this project. Please understand this has been a very, very long project that Scott and I have inherited, and many of the wrongs of this we have had to try to correct. We feel that we now have our ducks in a row and can finish this in a reasonable time frame. Wish us luck!

Glad to hear of all the changes and progress being made. Knowing Mike Tilger and Bob Yuill personally for many years and their high level of expertise, this project is definately off dead center. I'm sure this dynamic duo with the assistance of other volunteers will make this a reality. Best of luck!

Great news, congrats!

Now that you have a "Bob" with help from a "Norm" can a PBS series "This Old Locomotive" be far behind?

Here is a link to some photos of the recent activity on 1361's tender as well as staybolt work being done on the locomotive firebox/throat sheet.

Nice pics, and very good choice in having decided to use Yuill.
