Is this locomotive anywhere near operational? |

It would need to have a new form 4 calculated, tubes replaced, probably new springs for the drive wheel suspension, and a host of small things. While the L&N regularly ran their similarly-sized 2-8-4s on the Lebanon Branch (a portion of which is now the KRM), the locomotive is a bit too big for the current operation. L&N light pacific 152 is better suited for the excursion run. |

I believe the engine last ran in the late 1990's after being restored by the Fort Wayne Historical Society. I'm sure someone else on this list would know more about that. That's one locomotive I would love to see haul the New River Excursions amid the flaming fall colors of southern West Virginia. -Justin |

Seeing both 2716 and 614 hot and hauling to the same location in their original stomping grounds would be top on my dreams list. |

Actually, I forgot the significance of this recent photo of 2716. Ever since the museum moved from Louisville, there has been no display tracks. The only equipment regularly seen by the general public was the equipment used on the train. 2716 now sits on one of the newly constructed display tracked, that's the nose of former L&N E6 770 behind the tender (It's a gutted locomotive, the L&N used it's prime movers to repower Alcos) It is one sign of how the KRM is moving foward. Now, to work on coverage of the display equipment. |

Does anyone have a complete roster of KRM equipment that they would be willing to share? I have heard they have a large and diverse collection, but have only heard about a few pieces. Many thanks, Tom Cornillie |

The 2716 did not operate for the Southern(NS) after 1983. In fact, did not operate after 611 entered service, Firebox problems... She then operated again with the Fort Wayne Bunch as previously stated. |
