Post subject:  The 'New' Pacific Coast Railroad, Santa Margarita, CA

A few months ago, we set up the below blog as a means of keeping the interested public informed on the progress of developing a narrow-gauge tourist railroad and history park on a portion of the Santa Margarita Ranch (near San Luis Obispo, CA). The railroad is currently a private enterprise owned by Rob Rossi, co-owner of the approx. 15,000 acre mission-era rancho, which will next operate for the public on the first weekend of May to benefit the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum. Phase 1, completed in 2004, is a two-mile loop with a maximum grade of approx. 3.25% Currently on the roster are three operable steam locomotives (Vulcan 2-4-0, Porter 2-6-2 [rebuilt from 0-6-2T], and Harpur 25-ton replica 4-4-0), two Plymouth gas-hydraulic switchers, IRCA business car "Cuscatlan" and caboose 303, misc. D&RGW boxcars, and four original Santa Fe & Disneyland R.R. passenger coaches.
