With snow in the East and rain beginning in California I thought that folks might be interested to hear that the Western railway Museum put down the last spike in the yard of the new Car Barn Three project on January 18th. The six tracks still need to be ballasted and tamped. But after much switching involving all three car barns the Sacramento Northern main line and the museum's storage tracks, there are now six tracks of equipment indoors,(about 35 cars) mostly for the first time. For you steam fans, the two Western Pacific steamers 334 and 94 are still in Barn Two, but will be moved into Barn three later in the year. Sometimes it is easy to be a good neighbor, last summer a grass fire was being fought near but not on the museum property. Local volunteer fireman set up a cammand center on the museum grounds. Oh by the way, did you know we have 200,000 gallons of water for the tank trucks? The tank and pumping station are part of the fire supression system for the new barn. Ted Miles |
