I just found this link which has some pretty good info on the classic Buster Keaton movie, "The General." I was shocked to find out it flopped in the theaters! http://www.andrewsraid.com/keaton1.html http://www.andrewsraid.com/keaton2.html They filmed it in Oregon, not too far from where I live. I've been thinking of someday going out to the site where they dropped that locomotive in the river, but from what I can tell, I'm not sure the exact location of the bridge site is known today. Can anyone help me with the location? |

I know that the location is on private property outside of Cottage Grove on the Roe (sp) River. Until the mid 1960's the American that was dropped through the bridge was laying in the riverbed. Unfortunately locals decided to cut up the locomotive where it lay, but there are likely parts still scattered about. Sorry, not much help. Thanks, Taylor |

Of the Buster Keaton movie can occasionally be found for a buck in the various dollar stores, with another Keaton movie included.. |

Thanks, Taylor a coworker brought in a book he picked up on the General during a visit to see the General. In the book they show lots of pics from Keatons movie. There is a shot of the American Locomotive laying in the water. the caption read that the locomotive was in the same spot untill cut up for scrap during WWll. |

I guess my question still stands, does anyone have an actual location to where the bridge was? I have gotten a couple of e-mails from folks talking about the movie, but it seems nobody can say, "it's at this specific place," with directions to go to the spot... |

I cannot provide specific directions. I recall that the American Film Institute ran a feature story on the fiming in Oregon in its magazine in the late 1970s. You may find it on Google? Wesley |
