Historic skyline bites the dust.

The second comment on the video may be all too real!

Then we can rebuild the DL&W yard and once again passenger trains will once again grace the DL&W terminal ;)

I couldn't make anything out other than "Woo!" and some applause, but then I'm terrible at deciphering voices from background noise. What's the comment you're talking about?

He might have heard me screaming every time I see this dang thing. Nothing like your favorite lost cause becoming a spectator sport televised live. Arrrrgh, that day... THAT DAY!!!

I think the comment to which nathansixchime referred was a text comment posted on youtube immediately under the video that was being displayed. The comment was something to the effect that the mall that has been built on the site of the implosion may well soon meet a similar fate.

The first time I visited the Scranton shops after it became Steamtown, I was surprised by the changes that had taken place on the street. I was even more surprised by the very tiny street signs to the NPS historic site that are extremely difficult for you to read in traffic. I wonder how many people who have not been in Scranton before have trouble finding the entrance to Steamtown.

But Rob...

I thought the Dickson Works was your favorite lost cause? I know it was mine.

But back on topic, in an strange twist, the last remaining block (on the south side of the street anyway) of buildings is being considered for restoration back to their original condition with a "commons" behind them that will front on the old DL&W. Looks like it could be a nice project, albeit 20 years after the above video was taken.

As I'm fond of saying "Yes, its all very 'Circle of Life', isn't it".

Re: Street signs;

Currently there are plenty of signs directing anyone to Steamtown, which courtesy of many of these buildings being removed, is much easier to find.

But I still find it hard to believe the Hotel Casey is gone from that skyline!
