Downtown Columbus, O where CSX crosses Hocking street just north of the Scioto river the railroad overpass you can still make out the words "HOCKING VALLEY" on the girders on both the east and west sides of the overpass. Considering C&O took over the HV in 1930 that's some old bridge paint! |

Here is one in Washington State. This bridge was built in 1891 over the Yellowstone River, moved to North Bend in 1924 and rehabilitated in 2003 & 2004. The sign is a copy of the original "Ship Northern Pacific Travel." http://www.trainmuseum.org/Roundhouse/SR202/Bridge35_4.htm |

At least one overpass in Detroit is still lettered "Michigan Central Railroad" which I think was merged into NYC in 1931. I'm pretty sure it's over Brush Street, but it might be John R. In any case it's immediately northeast of the rubble field that used to be the EMF/Studebaker plant until the 2005 fire. Only the north side is legible, away from the sun. On your tour, don't miss the 1905 Ford plant one block east on Piquette (where the Model T was designed, largely untouched and semi-preserved) and the ex-GM stamping plant that was the scenery in the Eminem movie. Also the wooden street lights. No NYC Hudsons in the weeds, though. |

What i was actually looking for are current bridges that have had thier logos repainted. I'm trying to convince our local heritage committee that the 2 remaining MCRR bridges in NIagara Falls, that still have thier original MC markings, should have thier logos restored. I need to provide photos of other projects similar to this one, to see if it will get anywhere with council. Ken |

Along this line, apparently the new owners of the old Louisville & Nashville office building in downtown Louisville, Kentucky were going to remove the neon L&N sign at the top of the building. There was apparently quite a local furor and because of it, the sign was renovated and is now lit again at night. Anyone perhaps have a photo of the sign? Les |

The old MOPAC bridge over Kingshighway Blvd. here in St. Louis till bears traces of its MP past. One side proclaims "Route of the Eagles" and I can't remember what the other side says. The old Frisco bridge over Watson Road here also procliams "Ship it With Frisco." As for the L&N sign in Louisville, I believe the Commonwealth of Kentucky owns the building and it now houses state offices. http://www.chtky.org/images/L&N_Building/Thumb.jpg David Wilkins |

Regarding recently painted bridges with "heritage" paint schemes: Wasn't there a recent new(?) bridge over a State highway in New York to carry the Adirondack Railroad that is lettered for New York Central? |

The Northern Pacific Bridge 35 and its sign is an historic rehabiliation project performed to the Secretary of the Interior Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. It would seem to be one of the examples you are looking for. --Richard |
