None of these survived the 1950s, just a nice photo of a brand new B&M 4-8-2 on its first trip at Rigby, Maine (South Portland) in August of 1941:

Didn't the B&O end up with some of these, or am I thinking of a different 4-8-2?

Yes, the B&O did get a few of the B&M 4-8-2's. They were the B&O T-4a class (I think). Here's a picture of B&O # 5661 which was ex-B&M # 4111.

I thought those were the ones. I guess they were around till the mid-late '50s. Wonder what the B&O did with the original tenders?
I remember an old record with one of the ex-B&M mountains on it. In fact I think the name of the album was Remember When. They were nice looking engines.

I think the B&M engines that went to B&O were the slightly earlier and virtually identical lower-numbered R-1a, b, c class 4100s, 4100-4112. They were built with the 6-axle non-Centipede tenders shown in the B&O photo. I don't think the last batch of B&M 4100s went to B&O- they were R-1ds, and there were 5, built in 1941. The 3 L&HR engines of 1944 were dupes of the R-1ds.

When the FT and F2/F3 diesels came to the Hoosac Tunnel route in 1944-46, the big R-1s became surplus, as they were just about useless (too heavy) on the rest of the B&M.

Yup, that was the record. It had a recording of a B&O T-4 calling in the flag around Lorraine, Ohio if I remember correctly.

Frisco 1522,
A bit more information on the B&M/B&O Mountains to add to Howard's comments:

There were 4 sub-classes of the R's. R-1a,R-1b,R-1c and R-1d.
All locomotives had 73" drivers, 28"x31" cylinders, 240 psig BP, all were built by BLW

R-1a (4100-4104) Blt 1935,416,100 TE-B&O 5650-5654 -to B&O 7/1947
R-1b (4105-4109) Blt 1937,416,100 TE-B&O 5655-5659 -to B&O 7/1947
R-1c (4110-4112) Blt 1939,414,960 TE-B&O 5660-5662 -to B&O 7/1947
R-1d (4113-4117) Blt 1941,415,200 TE- All retired by 9/1956

The R-1d's were the only ones with the centipede tenders and came with Box-Pok drivers, the rest had square tanks and spoked drivers.
