3405 is still at the Bucks Railway Centre - it certainly was yesterday (it arrived in 1991) - the only thing that's changed since that picture is that the vegetation behind it has "fallen down".... |

James, i was just reading an article from Railway News about a project to convert a Pacific into an atlantic. Using the assorted locomotives from the Barry Scrap Yard the British preservation groups are really trying to fill in the gaps in steam preservation that presently exist. they are not happy with restoring another loco from a class that already exists. it is also interesting that there is almost universal interest in the pre- 1948 British Rail types. its a bit like being more interested in the Pennsy than Conrail. since british locomotives were named right up to the end of steam they names them after some very interesting things. But the Saint class of I think the GWR is something; a coal fired steam engine is hardly Saintly! Perhaps rather going the other way? Ted Miles |

As I said on another thread, as I Catholic railfan, I think of smoke and steam from steam locomotives as incense and holy water. |

Kevin, I too have been on the down wind side of a lot of insence in my younger days. You have made an excellent analogy! We have a steam triple header in this area this weekend. I will be attending at the alter of steam at the Niles Canyon Railway on Sunday! Ted Miles |
