| Post subject: | ALCO RS-1 trucks |
I'm looking for a way to move a 1948 Alco RS-1 that currently has friction bearing trucks, with 7 by 14 journals. I have available (as a loan) a pair of Century trucks. I'm trying to determine if the Century trucks will fit under the RS-1, just to move it dead in a train. I have put out some inquiries by email, and got a return call from a gent that says the center plates are different. But I'm not sure his information is accurate. I know and have seen a sister unit to mine that has trucks from a U-boat, and another unit I know has trucks from either a C-424 or -425. So I'm not sure the call I got was the right information. I would like some kind of definitive information on this before I call the crane and trucking guys in. Anyone have any drawings, or a loose RS-1 truck that they can measure? (I have access to a newer 752 motored truck from an FA to measure.) I do know that there are two slightly different RS-1 trucks, which changed at about the same times that the switcher trucks changed. Whole trucks can be interchanged, but not parts between the trucks. (And a 752 is about two inches and change too big to replace a 731-) Any help here would be appreciated. This unit is definitely worth saving. |

Might want to consider a set of freight trucks if you can get RR approval. |

EDM - Hope you get your truck question solved. I am glad to hear that you were finally able to find a home for your RS-1. I know you have been looking for a long time now. Les |
