A number of people enroute to ARM/Train 2001 rode Amtrak 79 (Carolinian) on 11-5-2001. This train was in a grade crossing accident in Durham NC at about 5.05 PM Monday 11-5-2001. It is my sad duty to report this was a fatal accident. According to the Durham Herald-Sun, a 1994 Thunderbird drove around stopped vehicles and the crossing gates onto the NS tracks. The passenger in the Thunderbird was pronounced dead at Duke University Hospital and the driver was in serious condition Tuesday (11-6-2001) night. The Electric City Trolley Museum Association |
