Woke up this morning to find this news. Wreck photos look like anybody who got out of this alive was lucky.... Two Dead In Train Crash SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich., 9:06 a.m. EST November 15, 2001 - Two people are reported dead and two others are in critical condition after a freight train collision on the Grand Trunk railroad tracks in Springfield Township this morning, Local 4 reported. The two injured people were freed from the wreckage and airlifted to area hospitals, Local 4 reported. One victim was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. One of the train cars was reportedly carrying hazardous chemicals and was giving off toxic fumes, Local 4 reported. Homes within a half-mile radius of the accident were evacuated. Andersonville Elementary School in Clarkston was closed. The accident also closed Andersonville Road at Big Lake, Hogback and Farley roads. The accident happened around 6:15 a.m., according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Department. Residents living near the collision site said that the impact of the crash shook their homes, Local 4 reported. The fire is starting to burn out, Local 4 reported.
