Bob:

For the record, a new "train viewing platform" has also been erected at Homewood for photographers and train-watchers. The Geep and caboose are on the west side of the old IC (now CNIC) tracks and just north of the Homewood Amtrak station. The viewing platform is located on the east side of the tracks across from the Amtrak station and a bit south of that location. Unless things have changed, there is a tunnel that runs from the west side to the east side (with steps up to the METRA suburban commuter train platforms) through which visitors can walk without having to travel by automobile from one location to the other.
