| Post subject: | John Mellencamp 'Our Country' and S&A GP30 |
Late last year John Mellencamp released the song "Our Country", in conjunction with a GMC Truck commercial. It's very good song, depending on your taste in music of course, but what's interesting is the music video that was released with it. At one point, Mellencamp is seen singing on the running board of a Savannah and Atlantic locomotive (looks like a GP-30 or 38, has Alco trucks as well). You can clearly read the lettering and you can see remnants of a Norfolk Southern logo behind it. Anyone know more about the engine used and if it was repainted or had the NS paint washed off (my Dad mentioned that the paint used by the Southern was tough as nails). And of course more importantly - is the engine still running around with A&S paint? (And when are we going to see it on a photo freight?) I would guess the GP35 at the Savannah Roundhouse Museum. Kinda fits the ocean scenes, and the near closing scene, leaning against the monument, "feels" like Savannah as well.
