Back when we had L&RP, this B&O roundhouse, or part of it, was still standing and a depot group there hoped to save it. Did anything ever happen there? Is it still standing? In this 1965 photo, it does not look in that good a shape.

The roundhouse is gone. It and the adjoining foundry building were demolished and the remains pushed into the turntable pit. I'm guessing it was about 1997-99 area but am not sure. However, I'm not sure the photo linked in your post is of the Chillicothe, Ohio roundhouse. The right wall was frame where it hadbeen cut down from about 20 stalls to about 4 stalls after a fire. Also, there was no masonry on the front, no block building to the right and the turntable was still intact into the 1990's.

The Chillicothe yards was a large maintenance station on the B&O, quite large for a town of that size.

The group was wanting to purchase the better part of the yard including the still extant roundhouse, turntable, transfer table, Foundry, Sandhouse, diesel service station, Passenger station and a few smaller buildings. That was in the early 1990's. They leased the passenger station and adjacent structures for several years while negotiating with CSX for purchase, making small progress toward restoring the building. As I understand CSX strung them along for several years before giving them a price of around $1 million for the property, which was way beyond their means. About that time a scrapper showed up with a bill of sale for "loose scrap" and proceeded to cut up every scrap of metal on the property including the turntable, transfer table and diesel station.

A subsequent number negotiated for the station property only was also way beyond their means (the number eludes me) and the group then folded.

The station was bought a few years later by an auto restoration firm that (i have heard) mangled part of the inside. They later moved out and last I heard it was vacant again. Meanwhile the lack of maintenance on the remaining shop buildings took their toll and the Foundry roof collapsed one winter taking down part of the partition wall between it and the roundhouse. Shortly after that was when they were demolished. The sandhouse was also torn down. Last time I looked part of the yard was turned into a tank car transloading facility and the rest was empty.

The two huge car shops (once serviced by the transfer table) still stand as they are used as part of the adjacent trucking company. I presume they own those buildings. The station still stands last I heard.

The station was still standing, although vacant with boarded windows, when I was out there in mid-2005.
