Post subject:  Good Quality Gaunlet Type Gloves
We recently covered bid overalls and I got some great informtion from those posts. I am looking for some good leads on mail order houses that handle decent gloves for firing and general service. It is getting harder around here to find decent work clothes. I have done some google searches, but have not really come up wth what I am looking for. We had some great gloves but have used them up. The vendor in Washington state went out of business. I guess we did not buy enough gloves! Any information is appreciated and I know that you guys will come through as always!!!!

The Wells Lamont gloves are available anywhere; but the problem is two-fold, the gauntlets are not really long enough to keep your forearms off of the hot surfaces, and the leather overheats and burns you before you know it is hot. And they are too heavy.

You can Google for long gauntlet cottom hot mill gloves. I bought a dozen about four years ago, only use them occasionally now. Here is just one example:

The engineer who taught me 25 years ago had some NOS "Super Chief" engineer's gloves. Lightweight, long gauntlets. Funny thing, the Super Chief print on the gauntlets were actually of the M-10,000. He kept one set for running, and another set for oiling around.

I hope this was not your vendor......
I have been using churchill gloves for 10 years, found em thru a ski area maintenance shop but thats another story.

I buy my gloves at Harbor Freight. The quality isn’t the greatest but they work well for me. The cost is about $1.15 per pair. Gloves don’t last long for me when I am prepping the engine for the days running and servicing it during the day. They become grease and oil soaked in as little as two days. At $1.15 it is easy to throw them in the firebox and get out a clean pair. That way, at least for a little bit, I look like a neat person.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their input. You have made my job much easier as always. I just ordered a dozen pair of the Galeton 2214 gloves with the 4-1/2" gaunlet cuff. I will let you know how they work out. I am in the same position as John. My gloves often get ruined after a couple of times of cleaning with kerosene before a trip. We also have tendency to sometimes leave them behind in the shop. I cannot always remember where I put them. My son will use his for quite a few trips on the NH&I. At $1.50 a pair plus shipping, I am hoping that these will fill the bill! Remember to order your caps from Kromer, they can certainly use the orders and we hope that they are in business for many years to come!
