Wondered if I'm alone in this?? Yesterday in addition to having 2 threads erased shortly after I participated on them (one I originated, one I responded to) I had 2 pm's recieved and answered and neither answer made it successfully to its addressee.
Am I alone in this or have others been experienceing problems with getting their pm answers delivered??
Thanks, Ross Rowland

Well, I looked into your PM issue as best I could. phpBB (this software) isn't notably thorough about logging things, and the way PM's are stored on the system is so blindingly obtuse it is difficult to track a generic report such as the above.

To be able to investigate more thoroughly than I've done, I'd need to know the username of the person responding to you, and I'd need a 5 or 6 word snippet of the reply text that didn't make it to you. Otherwise I've little hope of finding out what happened in this regard.

Things that can cause this problem: if your inbox is full, the reply won't reach you and the sender will not be notified that it didn't. If the sender's session expires (unlikely) or his ISP disconnects him at about the same time he hits the send button this can also happen. Beyond that I don't know much.

You might ask the sender if his reply is still in his outbox. That would also be an important clue.

With regard to the issue of threads, I have no information regarding that issue, and phpBB does not maintain a log of such actions, though I think it should. In any case, I've done what I could to investigate your issues, this morning. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Regards,
Doug

I got notification of a new private message, but none was there when I went to check on it, maybe there are issues?

Oooh! Oooh! For once I get to answer an easy one. If the sender deletes a private message from his Outbox BEFORE you get a chance to read it, you'll still get the notice that you have a new private message, but when you go to read it, it won't be there.

Thank you for asking!

Doug

On analysis, it is very likely that this is what happened to Mr. Rowland's vanishing PM's. It took a couple of hours of digging before I figured out the likely cause. I think my brain is a little fuzzy this morning. Sigh.
