According to various postings, the Yreka Western was to be running 2-8-2 No. 19 in freight service, beginning today, November 20, account a main generator failure in their SW-8 diesel. This shortline runs from Montague, California to Yreka, and No. 19 is original to it, having operated there in the 1950s.

Lucky West Coast guys.......

Perhaps someday, with development, diesels may become reliable enough to replace steam but probably not in our lifetimes.

the 19 came from McCloud, where it was MCRR 19, then went to Yreka in the '50s, then to Cottage Grove, and Back to Yreka. At least it now is still in Siskiyou county!
Steamcerely,

PS I hear it was great stack talk and steam with the cold day they had.
