If you haven't seen this on Flimsies yet, take a look at this article:

http://www.courant.com/news/local/hc-cttrain0712.artjul12,0,3475831.story

It's nice to see an article that doesn't play up the plight of NIMBYs who are being told that the railroad is coming back and the fact you were a squatter on the ROW wins you nothing.

I don't think that the article is anti-NIMBY, I believe that it is something that is rarely seen in the general media today....untwisted and acurate.

In the article, there is mention of the tracks passing "just 3 feet from historic buildings". How historic can they be if the New Haven was still running the valley line until 1969?! Off my soapbox...

Interesting to see this development in Connecticut. We're planning to ride the Valley RR in a couple weeks. Hopefully, the freight traffic (if it ever comes to pass) won't trump the passenger operation. Almost makes me wonder the influence that the Friends of the Valley RR working to clear brush from the line has had in the decision to study major capital improvements.

Thanks for pointing this out, edliner.

Isn't this the same line that there have been a lot of progress reports hear about the clearing of, enough for speeders at least?

Yes. This is the Valley Railroad line which was cleared by volunteers over the past few years. The line is passable to track cars except for some paved over crossings, a filled in bridge, the marina area, and a washout. The VRR now sprays this entire line to contol vegetation growth.
