Eveyone,

I was taking a look at Escanaba MI on Google Earth this afternoon and noticed the remains of a round hous on the south east side of town.

There was no track but the turntable is still in the pit.

Also, when I went north a little, I saw two round houses back to back with sidings going into them. Is this the Escanaba Railroad complex that is noted for the Baldwin RS 12's? There are 3 passenger cars near by.

Thanks in advance,

Yes, the turntable evident on the SE end of town is the former C&NW roundhouse location. I believe this facility was vacated in the 1980s when the engine servicing was moved to an industrial area on the west side of town (follow the E-W line westward from the center of the N-S oriented yard, to where a spur turns south, the engine terminal was moved out in that area).

The two partial roundhouses evident at the far north end of the yard area are the E&LS facility which is in Wells, Michigan.

Anyone know the length and design of the turntable? Hugo needs an 80-footer, deck girder style.

Bob,
There's a 90-foot table advertised for sale on Rail Swap. I guess that's 10 feet too long if it has to be an 80-footer, but thought I'd mention it.

I have no financial (or otherwise) interest in this.
