Thge 5620 at LaCrosse, Wisconsin on June 8, 1946. This one was kept by the Q until about 1964 before being sent to NWS&W at Sterling, Illinois for scrap. Was it a parts source for the 5632?

Jeez, that is a sad shot of 5620. I would guess it was taken at Sterling after the scrapping began as she is already missing her tender, lead and trail trucks and two pair of drivers..... ;>)

And it's the smallest boiler I've ever seen on a 4-8-4 too. :-)

I think the first link is bad. It is for a C&NW 0-4-0 or maybe it is missing a few parts

Thanks for the corrected photo of CB&Q O5A class 4-8-4 #5620. Sometime after the photo, I believe the Burlington may have converted her to an O5B class oil burner. Anyone know for sure?

There is a pacing shot of 5634 taken by Jim Shaughnessy in 1956 in a book titled "The Steam Locomotive' by Jim Boyd. I don't know how to scan it or post it, but it is one of the coolest steam action shots around...Do you have it Bob?

Yes, #5620 was converted to burn oil and was classified an O5b. It is a shame that she lasted into the early 1960's and wasn't preserved. I was always a little irked that Aurora, IL, got 4-6-0 #637 instead of a larger locomotive. Too bad #5620 didn't get a chance to be displayed at the old Aurora Shops.
