Needle in haystack dept: For some historical research, I'm trying to find a source for passenger car data of the Long Island in the teens & 20s.

I know it's not moral, legal or ethical for a southern boy to be asking for such, but I will explain to the person who comes up with the data or points me in the right direction.

Happy Monday, y'all! Jim

Might want to contact Ken Bitten of the former Northern Central R. I believe he owned them all.

Moral? Legal? Ethical? Hell, them's minor stumbling blocks, boy. What you wants is ANSWERS! A good source for general information on rosters for that given period are the Official Railway Equipment Register and Poor's Manuals. While providing somewhat skeletal data, they will at least provide basic information such as types of cars, number series, seating capacity, etc. and by comparing various issues it's possible to ascertain how many or what types of cars were added or retired within that timeframe. It's not nuts-and-bolts details or complete historical data, but at least it can provide a starting point.

I have a number of RER's from the 1920's. Contact me offline if you're interested and I'll be happy to look up and provide additional information on what's there.
