Just a nice old photo of SP GS-2 4415, at East St. Louis, on its way to the Golden State, fresh from the builder, January 3, 1937: http://abpr.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi?d ... sp4415.jpg |

I wonder if the receiving railroad removed the Lima Locomotive Works signs and destroyed them or returned them to the holy grounds of the LOCO. Be a neat thing to recreate on a locomotive presented in "as-built" condition. Hmm.... KL |

I remember reading that those signs you see on locomotives being delivered were made out of wood and paper, and thus probably disposable. Still, since 4449 is in her "as delivered" appearence these days, a photo with a recreated "Lima Locomotive Works Sign" would be neat. |

Hmm it's missing something vital. That must be standard for shipping, right? |

Yep, as I recall reading, the rods were boxed with a wood frame and shipped in the tender. Fred |
