Being scrapped in the backshop at Rutland, Vermont. The cab (being removed) survived, first as a backyard playhouse in Bennington, Vermont, then variously at Edaville and Steamtown. Not sure what happened to it after Steamtown moved to Pennsylvania, or if it still exists. Photo taken by the late father of my former engineer, who just retired after 42 years. http://maozi.middlebury.edu/cdm4/item_v ... =46&REC=13 |

Bob - Very interesting. I know that the cab of a Pennsylvania steam engine existed at the Museum of Science and Industry (MofS&I) in Chicago, Illinois, although I have not been there in a number of years so can't say for sure that it is still on display. And the FRONT END (cylinders forward) of a Missouri Pacific 2-8-0 was put on display in Dupo, Missouri many years ago. And the MofS&I had the drivers from Chicago & Eastern Illinois 4-4-2 #222 on display (and put in motion by the push of a button!) And I seem to recall that someone cut the cab off of a EMD covered wagon diesel some years ago. Maybe we should come up with a list of "Preserved Railroad Equipment PARTS! Les |
