Post subject:  V&T scene - a "could have been"

You have to join the V&T group to see this, but it is 4-4-0 11, the Reno, sitting near the Virginia City enginehouse and tanks, long ago. The Reno still exists, of course, and this scene could have been recreated accurately ala' Williamsburg, but it won't be. Work going on at the rebuilt V&T involves construction to modern highway standards, bringing in heavier locomotives that never ran there and in general building a generic tourist railroad. One engine has been moved from Carson City to a new V&T-like display building some distance from here. Too bad, as after losing the incredibly historic Carson City enginehouse to neglect and development, the Virginia City scene was still one that could have been recreated accurately. Given the state's devotion to their long-gone historic railroad, it's sad they could not have planned better.
