I've not heard anything about Stewartstown for a long while. Anything to report there?

I e-mailed someone who has been trying to do some business with what's left of the operation; here was his brutally frank assessment:

Quote:
As much as we may want to see the Stewartstown RR survive in situ,
everything points to the opposite outcome. George Hart is quite old and not
in great health. Unless he leaves the railroad to the new historical society
in his last will and testament, they cannot afford to purchase it. And with
all the new development in southern York County, the NIMBY's will be coming
out of the woodwork if the railway attempts to reopen. And even if it does,
where will the funds to replace ties, repair the station, overhaul the
rolling stock, etc., etc. come from? I'm afraid this is one that will get
away.

Regretfully, having hiked over some of it last weekend, I have to concur.
