Despite the unnecessary sarcasm, you're right. This was the recent previous post, but the photos were taken in 2005, not this year. http://rypn.sunserver.com/forum/viewtop ... 81&t=22729 Just a lack of sleep from too much time on the road I guess. |

Not sure that it matters much, but I can add that the first photo is indeed one of the engine this spring. Likely this photo was taken by guests of one of the spring photo freights. I think the night flash actually makes it look worse than it does during the day. Perhaps we should have painted a white line through the number for the photo people to explain its condition! We had moved the engine back further into the yard away from the tower as we had removed / reinstalled the south yard switches and much of the roadbed where it had been. The switches needed to get into the new museum site were also installed along with much heavier replacement yard switches. New and much larger drainage culvert boxes under the main track and new driveway entrance were also installed as part of this project and a new grade crossing for the county road next to the site was also installed. This has been a substantial undertaking. To say the least, we've been keeping busy..... and Thomas arrives in just a couple of weeks as well. The engine was actually on the rail and united with its tender in February of 2006 (not quite a year and a half on the property) Some touch up paint has been applied, but everyone is correct in saying that we have done little else physically to the engine at this point. The tender arrived three days after loading it on a truck so it has been on the property quite a bit longer than the engine. We have contacted the NYCSHS and they are in the process of locating / duplicating the plans for the cab windows, seat boxes, and similar items. We have a few volunteers who are ready to start on this work as soon as the plans arrive. We figure since the plans exist, it would almost be a crime just to make "something" close. Even for a cosmetic display, we still will need to locate a number of smaller items to either "borrow & duplicate" or purchase outright. All of the gauges are gone along with the throttle lever and other brass parts. At some point even the whistle was cut off with a hacksaw it appears. We've still had no luck finding photos of the engine while in service on the NYC, Wyandotte Southern, or Nicholson Terminal or even late 1960's to early 1970's photos of it in Hagerstown. Hopefully these will turn up for reference. Alco Historic Photos didn't have a builder's photo of it either, perhaps as it was built in the Pittsburgh Works. The State of Indiana Register and National Register applications for the engine are nearly complete and these will be submitted later this year (hoping to include some historic photos with it). In other WVRR steam news, working with the Alger-Sullivan Historical Society in Florida for several years, the Whitewater Valley has sold 2-6-2 Baldwin #100 to this group so that it could go back to its "original" home. I should note that the engine was not "for sale" but our board felt that this arrangement was best for the locomotive and both organizations. A Florida engine belongs in Florida, not Indiana just as I think NYC 6894 fits better on an NYC line than it did in Western Maryland territory. Number 100 was loaded up last week on a group of trucks headed south. The Alger people already have a track waiting for it. I'll send more detailed information in for a brief.
