Remember, there are two LIRR G5s locomotive in preservation. Oyster Bay Rail Road Museum owns #35, Rail Road Museum of Long Island owns #39. Both locomotive a re completely disassembled. Both locomotive have been inspected for restoration. OBRM is working on other "short term" rolling stock and artifacts, as well as rebuilding the historic station at Oyster Bay. The G5s will get rebuilt when the money is in hand. No point in a "start-stop" rebuild as has been seen all around the country. RMLI is in the midst of a total rebuild, however issues between the grantor (Suffolk Cty.) and the boiler company (Boilermatic) have slowed the progress. RMLI members are continuing to restore all the parts they are qualified to work on. #39's tender is completed, so that is good news. Everyone wants both locomotives back in steam and a great deal of positive effort is being asserted to get this done. Any and all donations to either organization, specified for the locomotive of choice, will hasten the day you see them up and in steam. Long Island Rail Road and Pennsylvania Railroad steam fans should really consider these efforts carefully, then get out your checkbook. |

I thought the comment on one of the websites humourous, that being "please refrain from placing bets on which engine will run first (35 or 39) |
