I felt I had to pass this along. Richard was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It has spread to his liver and lymphnodes. His doctors give him about a month.

For those who don't know, Richard was for many years one of the guys who kept the Shays running at Cass (I believe he used to run #4 on a reguler basis) and in later years 2-8-0 #40 at the New Hope & Ivyland. He retired and moved back to West Virginia a few years ago.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Its sad to hear that. I met Richard last fall at Cass. He is the father of Steam Whistle collecting. He's done alot of good for Cass over the years. I'll keep him in my prayers.

Mr. Carter has been kind and generous to my friends and I over the years. My prayers are with him.

Yes, got a message via a friend from his family last week. Diagnosis is the same. From what I hear, he's been out railfanning and making the most of his days. It would be a great time to drop him a note or an e-mail.

Hey Rob,

Does Richard have an email adress? Or any way of getting in contact with him?
Thanks for any information back
