Tim Spasato ( CMO-Steam-OC RR) and his crew have made several trips to Roanoke to prep the engine for dead-in-tow movement to Ohio.. He reports good progress and that they hope to have the move completed by the end of July.

Here is a little more information on the NKP 763 for you. Over the last couple of trips the OC steam team has made, they have removed the main rods gone over all the bearings and now have the air brakes sealed up and working among many other items. I know the Brakes were quite a chore as there were many air leaks, common with equipment that’s been setting this long. As for the rods it took some time as most would know to remove the mains and replace the connecting rods to maintain proper tracking and balance. As of right now the next big step for the OC steam team is to coordinate the movement of the 763 out of the Virginia Museum of Transportation and relocate it under NS Research Passenger Car shed here in Roanoke. This facility has an inspection pit and drop table to enable any last minute work and inspections before the big move. My understanding is this facility has been made available for two weeks for OC's use. As for which route the 763 is going to go, I'm guessing that’s still in the planning stages, as of right now OC's next hurdle is how they are going to get 763 out of the Virginia Museum of Transportation, track conditions into and out of the Museum are not very well maintained, in fact the lead into the museum could be described as a creek bed every time it rains, I know NS is very hesitant about entering the lead as it's more or less a no man's land kind of a gray area between the Museum and NS that doesn't get much attention. So will see how things go soon. I've got a couple friends who have been working hand and hand with the OC guys in the form of local liaisons for tools services and contacts while they are in town working on the 763. I'll ask them for any recent pictures they may have of the on going work and post them, I'm sure there are others who may be able to contribute more information and pictures.

I would be there my self in Roanoke though my work with the Military places me in Tokyo Japan till this fall, looks like I'll miss all the fun. But I'll see what I can do to keep updates coming. Enjoy
