The are need new 40 Inch wheel which I am for a specialty and know the strength,weight,etc. Where I do go? owenpaulsen@att.net |

Both wheels on an axle need to be the same size. You can have differences between axle pairs, but the two wheel on an axle should be the same size. Railroads will replace both wheels at the same time and then often turn the axle and wheel assembly on a wheel lath to make sure that the two wheels are the same diameter. An axle pair will often get turned several times to bring back profile before they are replaced. A long-time United States manufacturer of railroad wheels is Griffin Wheel.
