I just wanted to invite any interested RYPN contributors to drop by for the showing of the railroad history presentation "Selling the Diesel" this coming Tuesday evening June 19, 2007 at the Amherst Railway Society (Amherst, Massachusetts). A description of the program is shown on their events page: http://www.amherstrail.org/meeting2007.06.html This program provides a chronological overview of the diesel locomotive sales promotion efforts of Electro-Motive, ALCO, Baldwin, Lima and FM from the 1930s into the 1950s. In addition to looking at each manufacturer's advertising campaigns, it provides examples from locomotive field sales representatives "kits" including manufacturers flip card presentations, special cutaway components, and promotional items. This is the only showing planned for this program the rest of 2007, and the only presentation I presently have scheduled for the rest of this year that is open for the general public to walk-in. My thanks to the folks at the Amherst Railway Society for their very nice handling of this event. It is always a pleasure to work with these fine people. Other than the upcoming showings of INSIDE EMD at the NMRA national convention, I am on vacation now until Members Day at RMPA! Preston Cook |
