From Santa fe tests 1942, class 100 diesels (EMD FT 4 unit set) starting tractive effort 230,975lbs at 13mph= 134,000lbs at 25mph= 73,000lbs at 40mph= 47,250lbs at 60mph= 30,100lbs As an interesting aside, the 5011 class 2-10-4 steamers could provide more tractive effort and drawbar horsepower at any speed over 25mph, they just couldn't start as much tonnage, once rolling they had the advantage. |
