I seem to recall that two of these SD-9's were originally Central of Georgia while the rest were all ex-Nickel Plate Road. Can anyone confirm that?

Correct. Two of the NKP units were converted to R/C for use in some yard. The two CofG units and the other NKPs (seven units total) were reportedly being worked to... oh, I can't remember the yard name, it's northwest of Pittsburgh... for retirement.

SCRM put in a request for one of the CofG units and I think TVRM was interested in a CofG as well. The CofG units were assigned to the old G&F between Augusta and Greenwood for a while. The last info I heard -- a couple months old now -- was that the units were being traded for new locos and weren't available for preservation. Pity. A SD9 is a bit big for us, but if a D9-40CW will make the curve at US 321, a SD9 ought to!

Eight of the ten are at the Juniata shop in Altoona. I have personally seen only three of the eight at this point. I'll be keeping an eye on them. I was thinking they could end up being donor units for RailPower locomotives.

Please keep us up to date on the 8 SD9's now in Altoona. As well it would be nice to see at lest one of the CofG units saved, but if those two CofG SD9's are out of reach, you might want to consider the CofG SD7 being stored in the Roanoke Hump Yard by Virginia Museum of Transportation. I can't speak for the museum but my understanding is that the equipment stored off site in the yard is equipment the museum would rather have just disappear...

Here is a view of the CofG SD7 as it looks stored in the Roanoke Hump Yard.

Here is another SD unit in storage there as well, an Erie Lackawanna SDP-45.

These two units as well as other equipment were removed from the museum grounds a year or two ago to "clean" out the museum of items that were less than presentable...I'd say if there was on organization out there that would be interested in either of these two units or the others I'd write a letter of interest, it wouldn't hurt. Speaking from experience I bought a HW Pullman sleeper from there my self back when I was a freshman in college...it can be done. Heck they just sold the NKP 763 as well!

NS Units 50-57 are all former NKP units, 58 & 59 are former Southern/CofG.
