How about a picture of the boxcar behind it? Or any other equipment that might be located with the "critter"?

I don't know anything about the critter in Crandon, but the boxcar is one of the Soo Line 1924 AC&F automobile cars after it was rebuilt with a seven or eight foot door in the fifties. Number would be somewhere in the 75xxx series. This car was at Conner Lumber (served by the Laona & Northern) for some time, used to haul stuff around the mill, before going on display at Crandon.
