Does anyone know the status of the former SP West Oakland Diesel Shop? It had been a Harriman-era carshop and there had been a transfer table between it and the coach yard. Later the building had been transformed into a small diesel shop. When I drove by yesterday, it was empty of locomotives and surrounded by temporary fencing. I understand it has been threatened with demolition for some time and it seems maybe this building's time has come. "Relocating" brick structures is a pricey proposition, but it would have been nice to save some of the details (doors, lighting, windows) and brick. sigh. |
