Location: Somewhere east of Prescott, AZ along the old Santa Fe "Prescott & Eastern"
A cursory glance at a long-forgotten website bookmark revealed that the 1950 ex-LV tug Cornell, long advertised for sale as a "floating museum" yacht, has been sold from its Havre de Grace, Md. berth after originally being stored over in Galena, Md.

Would any eagle-eyed anthracite fans happen to know who managed to cop it? For what ends?

The tug apparently WAS sold, I don't see it listed with any of the marine sales organizations recently. I heard the organization that has the CORNELL is called "East End Maritime Institute", but I don't know any of the details and there does not seem to be much about them on the internet right now.

Gentle Forum Members,

The Cornell has been purchased for use in Greenport harbor to assist in docking "Tall Ships" and Navy vessels that make port-of-call. Until the arrival of the Cornell, tugs had to be sent over from the Thames Shipbuilding Yard in New London, CT.

Mr. Josh Horton, past Supervisor of the Township of Southold and a Coast Guard Officer, (currently reserve), is a principal in the organization that owns the Cornell. He plans to use her as a floating classroom when not pushing or pulling a big ship. The vision of hosting a maritime vocational education program on the Greenport waterfront has been around for some time. With the appearance of the Cornell and Mr. Horton's plan it may become a reality.

The Lehigh Valley Railroad connection has not been lost on members of the Railroad Museum of Long Island! I hope to soon be able to report some exciting news of a historical collaboration between the RMLI, Mr. Horton and the East End Seaport & Maritime Museum scheduled for Columbus Day Weekend 2007.

Hello, my name is Josh Horton. I am the Chairman of the "East End Maritime Institute." We charter the Tug Cornell and she serves as the centerpiece and training platform of the organization. Our primary function is to provide training for entry level deck and engineering positions to young men and women interested in starting a career afloat in the coastwise maritime trades. Upon completion of their training and having obtained a Merchant Mariner's Document we then work with these students to place them in jobs.

My good friend Matt purchased the Cornell in April. He too is a board member of the EEMI. Matt and I are both experienced NY/East Coast Tug/barge trade.

In addition to our primary function of vocational training, it is our intention to restore the Cornell to her original working form. (To that end, if any one can point us in the direction of obtaining "Cornell Red" we'd be forever grateful. We transitioned her from Reinhauer baige/red to full red but we'd like to apply her historic shade of "Cornell Red".)

Our organization is new and developing. As soon as we have a website up in the next few weeks I'll post the link here.
