Is the H engine still a viable project now that "irrational exhuberance" for 6000 HP units seems to have subsided?

I've often wondered how the new EMD will compete with GE, now that its no longer in the GM family and therefore unable to benefit from technical developments that have cross-market applications.

Meanwhile GE will be learning from and potentially finding locomotive applications in its electrical business, jet engines, consumer electronics...

I believe China has a contract for 600 6000 hp C-C units, 300 each from EMD and GE. India is also said to have an interest in locos of this size.

So, the H-engine may have a second life to come...

Do you know if GE has different applications for the turbine used in the Burke Class Destroyer Escorts? There were rumors many years ago that GE was trying to Hybrid that power plant into another venue. Thanks
