Does anyone know much about the first-class restoration work done on the various steam locomotives and cars at the California State Railroad Museum during the late 1970's and early 1980's? Who headed up the team, and was this work ever documented? In my opinion, the work that was done by them ranks as some of the finest cosmetic restorations ever performed on historic railway equipment in this country.

The State Museum Library has a series of reports on most of but not all of the projects. They vary as to length and completeness. I have mostly read the narrow gauge ones. The work on the steam locomotives was the most completely documented.

The library is open from 1 to 5 Tuesday through Saturday. You can see the web site for address and phone numbers. TM

I believe that CSRM has on staff some people who were involved during the initial restoration project.
