A 2006 photo of this 2-6-2 at Las Vegas, NM, where the last standing Santa Fe roundhouse is also located: http://abpr.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi?j ... gas.NM.jpg |

Does anyone know the story behind the tender coupled behind her? I looks like overkill for a 2-6-2. Thanks. Don C. |

All the red trim makes it look slightly European.... not that it's a GOOD thing! |

Perhaps the red trim is left over from the days of Soviet occupation. Joking aside, it is nice looking engine. Good that it is painted at all. It would be very nice to see one of the many extant AT&SF Prairies running. They look like they would be well suited for a small-to-mid-sized operation. They might even do well in reverse. Santa Fe has always seemed under-represented amongst the operating engines. That may be in part because one of them is painted green and mis-numbered (shudder). |

Funny thing about Santa Fe and "Soviet Occupation"... there was a movie back in the '80s called "Red Dawn" about a Soviet invasion of the US which featured a (diesel powered) Santa Fe freight train decorated with Soviet stars and such. I didn't see the movie, but TRAINS ran a picture of the train. |

Does anyone know of one that could be available for acquisition for restoration? One that is owned by a community or organization that isn't caring for it and would be willing to let it go with the knowlege that it would be going to a better home? One of these would be a perfect for the Niles Canyon Railway. |

Red Dawn was filmed in Las Vegas, NM. I suppose my joke was a little obscure. I think they used the Harvey House in the movie. |

Most likely the tender came off a retired Mountain type. The "green" ATSF 1316's tender came off a Mountain, the 3749 I think. |

There is an ATSF 2-6-2 that has been stored for years close to Shreveport, LA. It belonged to a local railfan organization, but nothing has been done with it for many years. Perhaps someone on this list can tell you exactly where it is. It might be available. |
