A reader may recognize the place - probably one of the 1950s excursions it operated on in California:

The heavy modifications later no doubt made it a better engine, but somewhat less esthetic.

I believe that is the Muir trestle, just south of Martinez, CA, near Franklin Canyon. It is named for John Muir, the famous environmentalist who gave the Santa Fe permission to build the line across his property. This scene is very close to the Muir house which has been preserved as a National Historic Park.
