A&N 9 was donated to the City of Camilla (the western-most town on the Georgia Ashburn Sylvester & Camilla, the "GAS Line") after Southern Ry acquired the Pidcock Lines in 1966. It had sat in Albany near the A&N shops for many years, probably from around 1950 or so until donated to Camilla. Thronateeska Heritage Center didn't come into existence until about 1974, so there was never any opportunity for the organization to get the locomotive.

After sitting in the weeds in Camilla for some time, it was initially cleaned up and painted Southern green with "SOUTHERN" on the tender. It was cosmetically restored again in the early/mid-1990's and a shed was built over it forming a small park near the former site of the GAS&C freight depot. It is now painted black and again lettered "SOUTHERN". Doubtful it will ever again be lettered Albany & Northern.

I saw this little engine around 1989 when it was sitting in the open in faded Southern green paint. It looked awful. The 9 appeared to have the same paper thin tires shown in this photo and to be pretty worn out. It is nice to know she is now black and under shelter. I questioned how long the poor old thing would be around when I saw it.

The photo below shows the locomotive's appearance in 1967, when photographed by Jim Boyd:

You trumped me. It looks much worse than when in the green paint. Let's hope it never looks like this again.

How does one go about adding photos to the steamlocomotive.info Photo Album for the locomotive, or any others? I have photos of all the local locomotives taken over a 20 year span (more or less) and would like to add some of them. For 4"x6" printed photos that will have to be scanned, what resolution (dpi) is desired? Thanks.

At the moment, the only way to add photos to an album is for one of the editors to do so. Images for albums can be emailed to info@steamlocomotive.info and they'll be added to albums for the specific locomotives promptly. JPEGs are preferred and at least 800 pixels wide.

We hope to add an interface that will allow visitors to contribute album photos sometime in the next month or so.

Regards,
Doug
